Rotation exciters are a powerful solution for precisely calibrating and characterizing rotational vibration sensors and gyroscopes. They facilitate the creation of realistic test conditions for reliable measurement results. Thanks to their compact design, these exciters are ideal for use in test laboratories, for research and development purposes, and for the quality assurance of MEMS sensors.
The DRE-01 from SPEKTRA is typically used for calibrating gyroscopes or IMUs, characterizing MEMS, and conducting accelerated stress tests and device testing. The particularly low-distortion motion ensures high reproducibility. Integrated overload protection and efficient cooling enhance operational safety, while flexible control enables straightforward integration.

High-precision rotation exciter for sensor testing and characterization
The DRE-01 dynamic rotation exciter provides highly dynamic excitation for calibrating gyroscopes and characterizing MEMS sensors within a frequency range of 1 Hz to 5 kHz.
With a maximum rotation angle of ±15°, peak speeds of up to 5,300 °/s, and accelerations of up to 2,500,000 °/s², this device can execute demanding test profiles. Its very low motion distortion of less than 3% THD starting at 6 Hz ensures high measurement accuracy. It is compatible with standard signal generators or vibration controllers, offering flexible operation. Integrated overload protection, active cooling and an optional reference sensor complete the package, enabling precise and efficient test workflows.

In a nutshell: Angular velocity vs. rotational speed
In the field of gyro sensors, many terms are used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same: Gyro sensors measure angular velocity (also known as rotation rate), i.e., how fast an object is rotating. This is typically expressed in °/s. This should be distinguished from angular acceleration, which indicates how rapidly this rotation rate is changing (°/s²).
Test systems also have various designations, such as rotary exciters, rotation exciters, rate tables, or rotation shakers. These are mostly systems designed for targeted rotation. The main differences lie in whether constant rotational movements are generated for calibrations or dynamic stimulation for tests.
