What is the process behind shock calibration systems?

A shock excitation calibration system generates defined mechanical shock pulses that can be used to precisely calibrate dynamic sensors. It consists of a shock exciter, a controller and software.

While the shock exciter generates controlled accelerations, a controller records the sensor response and compares it with reference values. The systems vary in terms of amplitude range, pulse shape, payload and type of calibration (primary or secondary). The software controls the sequences, documents the test data, and generates traceable calibration certificates.

Applications include accredited laboratories, research facilities and industrial test labs. The selection of the system is based on the size of the DUT, the required  accuracy and the frequency range.
