Shock exciters produce precisely defined mechanical pulses. These are used to calibrate and test shock and vibration sensors. They are used by accredited calibration laboratories, the aerospace industry, sensor manufacturers and research and development departments. This makes it possible to test shock sensors, measurement chains and small assemblies with reproducibility and precision.
Modern systems generate sinusoidal shocks with high repeatability. They can achieve amplitudes of up to 1,000,000 m/s², and up to 2,000,000 m/s² with "Very High Shock". The signal shape, amplitude and pulse width can be adjusted flexibly. Automatic calibrations and amplitude excitation ensure efficient, standards-compliant testing.

What is the purpose of a shock exciter?
A shock exciter is a testing device that generates controlled mechanical impact pulses. It is used to calibrate accelerometers or perform impact testing on components. Excitation is typically provided by a mechanical impulse system, whereby a moving body strikes a defined impact element to generate a reproducible acceleration. The shape, amplitude and pulse duration can be adjusted by varying the mass, the impact material or the damping.
The various models differ primarily in terms of the achievable amplitude range, the shock waveform (e.g. sinusoidal) and the degree of automation. The range extends from simple manual shock exciters to fully automated calibration systems for metrological applications.
Our exciters can be easily and seamlessly integrated into system solutions for characterizing and calibrating your measurement equipment.
